Amneal Pharmaceuticals is an integrated specialty pharmaceutical company with the largest manufacturing plant in the country. Located in Brookhaven, NY, Amneal Pharma wanted to add 600,000 square feet to its already substantial plant. Nautilus Controls was contracted to perform a mechanical and controls project that included completing a study of existing conditions.
After completing our study, our team of engineers designed and installed a custom building management system architecture that would connect the two buildings on the campus. We chose a Honeywell Niagara Control System to easily control and monitor both parts of the facility simultaneously.
Our team also assisted with the design and installation of the entire mechanical and controls systems. In addition to our building management system work, Nautilus Controls also installed:
- Boiler and chiller plants.
- A geothermal system.
- 33 air handling units.
- 40 water-source heat pumps.
- 25 fan coil units.
- Various other types of manufacturing equipment, including fluid beds, coating pans, v-blenders, and dry tunnels, air compressors, dust collectors, and vacuum systems.
We deployed more than 30,000 discrete control points to monitor and control specialized equipment in the facility, such as dust collectors, air compressors, vacuum systems, and clean steam generators.
To help Amneal Pharma monitor its energy use, our team designed and developed a custom energy dashboard that provides data about all electrical service energy and consumption of gas, chilled water, boiler hot water, and city domestic water.
Additionally, we designed and installed an iconic system to store production data for various products (Temp + Humidity – CFR-21-Part II) in line with FDA requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing. We also prepared IQ, OQ, and PQ validation documentation and support to validate all the HVAC and BMS control system equipment for FDA approval.
